The latest UNEP Emissions gap report makes for disturbing reading. After 26 COP meetings the NDC voluntary framework has failed to produce the necessary emissions reduction to reduce global warming to 2.0C let alone 1.5C. The emissions gap in 2030 is now projected at 15GTCO2 for a 2 C pathway and 23GTCO2 for a 1.5C pathway. Current estimates have us on track for 2.8C. This only looks at climate change and ignores the pollution and biodiversity crisis that accompanies catastrophic climate change and BAU. It’s time for businesses and their stakeholders to step up and close the gap.
